Ministry of Mining refuses to give explanations

After investigations held twice, the case of SouthGobi Sands former CEO tax evasion has been transferred to District Criminal Primary Court, according to the announcement made on January 16th by the State Prosecution Agency.

On May 3rd od 2012 case against D.Batkhuyag then Head of the Mineral Resources Agency was raised on possible corruption and misuse of the position in accordance with the Criminal Code and Justin Kapla, President of SouthGobi Sands LLC on possible money laundering, tax evasion and corruption conspiring with then Financial Manager Hilarion Cajucom Jr. The Court hearing of the case has been postponed for a months period.

B.Batkhuu, Head of the Policy Implementation Coordination Department at the Ministry of Mining, said that the matter should be handled in accordance with the international expertise as the case involves foreign investors and that Ministry of Mining is not entitled to give explanations on the matter as the case has been investigated by the prosecutors and experts.
