Mongolia's little representatives of the intellectual sports are being acknowledged globally. World athletes are considering Mongolian participants as their strongest opponents and are paying special attention.
One of the biggest example is the Asian Draughts Championship 2015 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan during April 2 to May 6.
Team Mongolia has shown incredible results at three categories of Adolescent, Adult and Elders winning total of 71 medals of which 20 gold, 24 silver and 27 bronze.
This Asian Championship involved participants of 15 coutries and Mongolia shown colossal results standing just after the host country Uzbekistan and third by its number of Gold medals.
This is the result we can be proud of not only in Asia as this shows where Mongolia ranks in the world.
Special attention deserve our little participants. Our 11 year-olds have ranked at first four places one after another at the 100 results.
This is just one expamle of how Mongolian team performed.
In parallel with the good news we have to touch on the lacking side as well.
Approximate cost for one child to participate in regional competitions is around MNT 6-8 Million. For some this is not a problem, but for the ones from the average families it is a great burden. Children with high ranks have to participate at least in one international competition and 2-3 national and aimag competitions, each with its costs. Let me tell the story of the two kids.
B.Bilguundari, four times Bayankhongor Aimag Draughts Champion, National Champion, Asian Championship Bronze medalist, Sports Master with 1st ranking, four times Bayankhongor Aimag Chess Champion and Sports Master with 3rd ranking, was qualified for participation in Asian Championship, but faced the financial hardships.
In 2013 she was qualified to participate in World Championship, but due to the financial constraints she skipped the tournament. Therefore, many initiated campaign on social media to help the little girl.
As we thought that we could help the girl to go for the tournament another boy Ch.Dashpuntsag was qualified for the championship and we doubled our efforts to help him as well. We have approached many who we knew and didn't know, we sent our letters to MPs and other business people. Luckily with the help of the good-hearted people the kids could go to the tournament.
B.Bulguundari and Ch.Dashpuntsag have fulfilled the trust of those many who helped them and both won Gold Medals at Turkish Draught in their respective categories.
It seems unbelievable. The reason for my fascination is that while other participants have been fully prepared for this category, our participants have competed in Turkish Draughts category for the first time. They had only two days for preparations and here they are standing with the Gold medals both.
Mongolia has a Sports Ministry. If the state cannot provide its athletes with everything, it should at least have the policy on how to support the ones who have already proved themselves at regional and international competitions.
We have to have the proper policy and support system for our athletes, which can be responsible for the proper management of the athletes and support the talents for better results.
It is impossible to beg for money every time and every year for all the qualified participants. Although people can lend their helping hand it is not that much supportive psychologically for the kids. As the more they receive the help they are under burden of not failing and breaking the trust of those many, instead of thinking of the tactics to compete.
Therefore, we need to come up with the support and policy to prepare the future athletes and let them deliver their best results without worrying about the financials at that young age.
This is the sad truth behind the glorious win by our young talents.
