One of the first organic cosmetics products manufactured in Mongolia has become available for the lovers of bubble bath.
We are introducing the young professional with the Master's Degree in Renewable Energy, who worked at the Salkhit Wind Farm, but then decided to start a cosmetics manufacture and established her Lhamour brand.
The main philosophy behind her work to establish the brand to compete on global market is the compliance to the international standards from the very beginning.
Like anyone would care for their health and wellbeing, one should be caring for the mother earth as well. With this in mind Lhamour brand uses wasteless technology and recycles too.
Here is captivating interview with D.Khulan, Founder and CEO of the Natural Essentials LLC.
-Among the products of Lhamour there are ones that are defined as first in Mongolia. Could you introduce them more in detail?
-Our first product was introduced to market in March of 2015. Currently we have come up with four products, of which first is the bath bomb made of 100 percent organic and natural ingredients. There are three types of lip gloss as well, also made of natural ingredients. These two products we defined as first in Mongolia. We also produce soap for use for adults and children. Recently we have come up with gift bundle featuring our products.
-More on the advantages of using your products?
-Bath bomb is infused with many types of the raw ingredients. First is the sea salt more known in Mongolia by name Jamts Davs, which has excellent properties to detox and relax the body. With using only the salt has the negative effects of drying out the skin, therefore we have added oils so that after taking bath the skin is purified and moisturized and one can skip the lotion after the bath. I would recommend the bath bomb with olive oil for more sensitive skin types which is prone to allergic reactions.
For lip gloss we are offering three ingredients such as honey lava, seabuckthorn oil and coconut oil. These are made with essential oils that way have the moisturizing properties, perfectly matching the harsh weather conditions of Mongolia. Our products, in comparison with imported ones have long lasting moisturizing effect.
Our soaps have moisturizing effects as well. Also the use is prolonged as we use the three month drying technique. One soap can be used for three months. Although it is made for use on body some of our customers use it for washing their faces and even their hair.
-When the first idea came to your mind to produce organic bath bombs and soaps? How much time did it take from idea to the product?
-Our company was established in June of 2014. First steps such as product ideas and project proposals I mainly did at home. In September of last year we moved into our office and the production facility was ready by October of 2014. By December we have obtained all the necessary licenses and certificates required for the production. By January of 2015 we have received our product approval and after Tsagaan Sar we started our production and sales.
-It has been few months since the launch. How are the customers reacting to your products?
-Since the first product we have gained regular customers. Many are liking our products and they would give feedbacks as "this is perfect for my skin", "it moisturizes a lot". We also work closely with allergy specialists and many of their patients would say that our products are great for use for their skin conditions. Many of our customers come through their friends who have already used our products.
-Having organic cosmetics products in times where it is even hard to find organic food is itself is very interesting. Probably this has become the selling point?
-Lately people are paying more attention to their health. Many are attending gyms and are trying to use more organic foods. But there are many circumstances that do not depend on them. Dust, smoke, harsh weather all contribute to skin problems that people are having. Therefore people are more keen as it is important to use organic cosmetics and skin care products. But the problem is that consumers do not have enough information on organic products therefore we are constantly updating our customers on new products and consultations through our website. We focus more on how to use our products rather than just saying it is good to use. We receive many positive feedbacks.
-What will be introduced next?
-We are working on greeting cards. We are aiming to produce products that are relevant to people and healthy at the same time. We do not only focus on cosmetics, but we are seeking on more opportunities. Therefore our next product to introduce is greeting card. It features many occasions that we encounter in our daily lives.
Moreover, we are to introduce the candles starting next week. This product uses natural ingredients and raw materials all available in Mongolia and has properties such as refreshing the air, non-allergic and having mild scents. Another property is it will light for prolonged period and does have any fumes.
Another product in production is the body scrub and baby soaps that are not harsh for the delicate baby skin.
-How many product lines are to be introduced in 2015 in total?
-In total eight new products will be introduced.
-Is it possible to make custom soaps with carvings as the production of soap is handmade?
-We cooperate with the tourist camps and produce custom made soaps. Moreover, couples having their wedding order gift sized products with their initials and so on. We are flexible with production of soap.
-As the production is hand made how many employees do you have?
-There are six of us. Three at the administration and three at the production. Adding me will total to four who work on the production.
-What is the profession of the employees working on the production?
-Our production employees have different professions. As we do not handle any chemicals in production I train the staff as I have International Organics Cosmetics Diploma.
-You have been working at the first renewable energy project in Mongolia Salkhit Farm. What is your profession?
-I have Master's Degree in Renewable Energy Management which I did in New York, I also have Master's Degree in State Policy in Germany. In 2014 I did online Master's Degree courses on International Organic Cosmetics.
-How come the renewable energy and organic met?
-They have both same principles. First is production. One produces energy, while other produces beauty. Renewable energy itself is environmentally friendly so does the organic cosmetics have positive impacts. We are just converting the natural ingredients into products. We are not mixing chemicals or digging or burning. So the rationale behind is the same - environmentally friendly.
-Most of the products which are organic are bit pricey. What is the price range for your products?
-We view our products as having great value for what one pays. Surely enough it is priced slightly more expensive than those with chemicals in it. Although the bath bomb and lip glosses are manufactured to international standards their prices are not high as they are being manufactured in Mongolia. Bath bomb price is MNT 7,900, while the similar product abroad will be US7. Lip gloss is MNT 8,000, soap for adults is MNT 12,500, soap for children is MNT 12,000 for a pack of three. Most of all these are organic and can be used for prolonged period of time.
-About the name Lhamour. First I saw it as a word in French?
-Lhamo is the name of my niece, the Tibetan name. Amour is the French word for love. I used to live in France therefore I chose to name my brand this way. Many would ask why love? it is because if one loves oneself he or she will use organic products and also will have their friends and close people to use the organics as well. Our actions should be based on love. Our logo also depicts the national patterns so that anyone in the world would understand that this product is made in Mongolia. As we go under the organic name our production is also wasteless.
-You have mentioned that the Lhamour brand can be recognized anywhere in the world. Are you aiming for going global?
-My objective is to go global with my products. With current economic situation it is crucial for us to be manufacturers. Soap is the staple item that is used daily in our lives, but there are many imported products. We aim to offer healthy and organic products. We aim to offer range of products which are innovative so that is why we started our production with bath bombs. Organic cosmetics has become the new trend worldwide and Mongolia is adopting it very quick.
Our packaging was also desinged with mind of going global. My wish is to introduce Mongolia with a brand product. Therefore, every bit of our product is adhering to internaitonal standards and is suitable for use anywhere in the world. Even our logo, packaging and bags and the website is all done in English. We are registered member at the International Organic Cosmetics Association, which allows us to write our history both internationally and domestically at the same time.
