Many are expecting that amendments to the constitution and draft law of election are going to be approved soon.
Major amendment is to increase up current 76 parliament seats to 99, considering the increase in population since 1992 when the law was adopted. Promising candidates for 2016 parliament election are anxiously waiting for the amendment and decide whether they are going to nominate for upcoming election.
14 day earlier, the parliament discussed about carrying out the referendum on the amendment to the constitution, and accepted with the vote of the majority to prepare first discussion, and shifted the issue to the state structure standing committee. The first discussion of the amendment will be held this week.
In order to amend the constitution via implementing the referendum, the law of carrying out the referendum must be first amended. As soon as the law is amended, the referendum is enabled to take place, so that the law is approved after the final discussion is concluded this week.
Despite public not expected to support the amendment to the constitution, the parliament has already decided to carry out the referendum, which will cost MNT 5 billion.
The other law, which makes potential election candidates await, is the law of election. Currently, four different draft laws on the election have been submitted to the parliament, which agreed to discuss all of them 14 days earlier and shift the bills to state structure standing committee for the preparation of the first discussion. The standing committee is scheduled to finalize the preparation this week.
Political parties having parliament seats have reflected their interests in each draft law on the election. Thus, the parties must agree on certain terms in order to reach the approval of the draft law.
