Water usage in Mongolia

Public Health institute (PHI) reports on Mongolia's water usage by sectors, and domestic tap water takes up 16 percent, Mining 22 percent, and highest is Energy sectors at 25 percent.

  • Domestic tap water – 16,
  • Animal husbandry – 16,
  • Agriculture arrigation – 12,
  • Ligh industry – 8,
  • Tourism  - 1,
  • Construction – 0,00002,
  • Green development – 0,00001,
  • Roads  - 0,00001

Mongolia annually uses 500 million cubic metre water. 30.5 percent of all population receives water from centralized network, 35.8 percent from transportable service, 24.6 percent from water distribution point, and 9.1 percent from well or river. 

Water usage of apartments connected to engineering lines are different compared to those living in rural areas, and ger districts where residents living in apartments use up to 230 - 350 liters of water per day compared to ger district or rural community residents using only 5 - 10 liters per day.

Every year water usage is rising which make is main concern in Mongolia as it is the main defining factor to developin sanitation, agriculture arrigation, animal husbandry, range management, and other sectors such as mining and renewable energy.
