On the sidelines of the Official Visit to the Republic of Korea, the President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj met with Mongolians residing in the Republic of Korea.
At the meeting, President Elbegdorj noted: “I would like to extend my greetings to the Mongolians who have gathered here. If you have questions or requests, we will be happy to answer them openly. We have few issues to inform. The Republic of Korea has developed information technology and I think Mongolians residing here have no problem with accessing latest news in Mongolia. We discuss several issues when I meet with Mongolians residing abroad. First, we touch upon issues related to our citizens and their children. Recently, we have submitted draft amendment to Law on Citizenship of Mongolia to the Parliament. This draft amendment reflected the requests and suggestions of Mongolians residing abroad. Implementing this draft amendment, we pursued a policy avoiding our citizens to lose their nationality. We decided to pursue this policy. Currently, Mongolia does not register its children born abroad even if the both parents are Mongolian. Now, every child born in a foreign country, if the parents are Mongolian, will be registered and will be issued birth license. If the new citizens will visit Mongolia with their parents, Mongolian passport will be issued to them and it will be free to visit the country. Mongolian children born in a foreign country will be welcomed like Mongolians”.
