The ‘China-Mongolia-Russia’ international truck convoy will mark the launch of freight traffic along a new economic corridor between Asia and Europe. In the course of the rally, participants from the three nations will personally test and evaluate the quality of transport infrastructure and roadside services along the route, as well as the potential for developing industrial facilities. The event is coordinated on the Russian side by Rosavtotrans, a federal agency of the Russian Ministry of Transport.
The launch ceremony will take place in Tianjin, China, on August 18th, 2016. The convoy will finish in Ulan-Ude, the capital city of the Republic of Buryatia, Russia, on August 23rd. Within six days, the nine trucks making up the convoy will drive 2,200 km from China to Russia via Tianjin, Erenhot, Ulaanbaatar, and Ulan-Ude, passing along the way through 11 cities located in three countries.
“This convoy is indeed a historic event. A route that links together China, Mongolia and Russia will now become a major freight thoroughfare, and an important channel for boosting mutual trade and investment. Hundreds of trucks will be driving along this motorway in the nearest future, like links in a great cross-border chain. This should have a positive impact on the cooperation between our countries, and enable us to develop our economies, exchange best practices and promptly address various tasks,” says Alexey Dvorkin, Director General of Rosavtotrans.
The truck convoy is organized at the initiative of the Transport Ministries of Russia, China and Mongolia, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and in accordance with the draft Intergovernmental Agreement on International Automobile Transportation via the Asian motorway network negotiated within the framework of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
