Chairman of the State Great Khural M.Enkhbold received Thursday the World Bank Country Director for China, Mongolia and Korea, Mr Bert Hofman.
Noting that Mongolia views the World Bank, which implemented numerous projects and programs beneficial to the people’s lives for more than 20 years, as one of our closest partner, the Speaker highlighted the significance of support on the part of international financial and banking organizations, inclusive the World Bank as well as neighboring and other partner countries in these times of economic recession in Mongolia.
He expressed his hope that the World Bank would render development policy assistance to Mongolia upon just and accurate review and assessment of the current economic situations during the meeting between the Government and development partners of Mongolia.
Mr Hofman thanked for the Speaker’s time and for the opportunity he had been afforded to work with Mongolia for the past 22 years within the 25 years of cooperation between Mongolia and World Bank.
He said “Although Mongolian economy is facing temporary difficulties, prosperity and bright future await Mongolia in the long run”.
While noting he was aware of the Mongolia and IMF’s ongoing negotiations, Mr Hofman noted this is good for Mongolia-WB cooperation. If Mongolia accepts and mobilizes the IMF arrangement, this would enable all means of technical assistance from World Bank and other development partners of Mongolia, he added.
The World Bank looks forward to maintaining enduring cooperation with Mongolia for a long period of time, he went on and extended thanks to the parliament for passing the bill on the Loan Agreement on Export-Oriented Projects. He shared that Mongolian side and WB agreed to launch three other giant projects for activating the labor markets, strengthening finance and economy, and promoting energy sector growth.
Mr Hofman concerted with Mr Enkhbold’s remarks that Mongolia has a great potential for coping with the temporary difficulties and building brighter future for it is a country, which has vast territory, abundant mineral resources and small population, once the decisionmakers pursue proper policies and find optimal solutions.
