The Children's Day is celebrated on 1st of June around Mongolia to honor and appreciate children. Mongolia joined the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1990. Later Mongolia drafted a law on protection of child rights and approved it on May 8, 1996.
1s of June was legislated as non-working public holiday nationwide. On this day, parents dressed their children in finest clothes - mostly suits and fancy dresses and take them out to enjoy a day.
It has been a tradition to Mongolians to give presents to children. Moreover, companies prepare gifts to the children of their employees. Recently, groups, friends or individuals donate presents to children of poor families or orphans.
On 1st of June, City Governor`s Office, all districts, biggest shopping centers, cinemas and theaters even housing towns organize events, performances, and concerts for children to make their day happy.
