The preliminary count of the electronic voting machine came up.
This year, voting age population (VAP) in Mongolia is counted 1 million 978 thousand 298 hundred nationwide including all 21 aimags and nine districts of Ulaanbaatar city and three political parties seated at the Parliament nominated candidates; namely M.Enkhbold, Mongolian People`s Party, Kh.Battulga, Democratic Party, and S.Ganbaatar, Mongolian People`s Revolutionary Party.
According to the preliminary voter turnout data, 1 million 344 thousand 532 hundred people went to the polls nationwide. In other words, the voter turnout in the Mongolian presidential election was measured at 66.54 percent nationwide as of 10 p.m.
Even the participation rate was enough, none of the candidates won absolute majority votes.
A total of 1983 polling stations worked from 7 a.m to 10 p.m today. Of which, 1968 polling stations submitted the final count of the electronic voting machine to the General Election Committee;
- Kh.Battulga, a nominee of Democratic Party won 39 percent (515,745 votes),
- M.Enkhbold, a nominee of Mongolian People`s Party won 31 percent (409,184 votes),
- S.Ganbaatar, a nominee of Mongolian People`s Revolutionary Party won 31 percent (409,570) of total votes respectively.
Meanwhile, the hand counting will be conducted on 50 percent of the total votes and the result has not finalized yet.
According to the Law on Election, a candidate must receive at least 50 percent plus one vote of the total valid votes to win the election. If none of the candidates win absolute majority votes in the first round, the two most voted candidates to run for a second round while a candidate who received the least votes will be disqualified from the competition.
Re-polling shall take place nationwide within two weeks after the first polling day. The General Election Committee will order the re-polling date and will submit to the State Great Khural then the date will be finalized and set by the regular meeting of State Great Khural.
During the re-polling, only registered voters who were absent at the first round shall attend and the number of votes from the second round shall be added to the original vote count.
Approximately 5 billion Tugrik will be required for the re-polling and the second round of voting has not held in the history of the total six presidential elections of Mongolia.
