ULAANBAATAR (GoGo Mongolia) - On Sep 6-7, 7th annual “Сoal Mongolia-2017” international coal trade, investment conference, and exhibition is being held at Shangri-La Hotel Ulaanbaatar.
This year the objectives have renewed to improve structure and conformity of coal export, trade, transportation, logistics, and customs as well as to increase the efficiency of the foreign and domestic investments.
Today the conference is discussing issues around coal transportation and logistics.
Organizers of the conference note that "Mongolia transport coal to China through Gashuun Sukhait, Shivee Khuren, Hanchi and Bulgan border ports. However, about 70 km long truck queue was created on road to Gashuun Sukhait port. Approximately 6000 drivers transport coal on this road. The government of Mongolia set a goal to cut long checkpoint times, allowing drivers to cross the border not getting off their vehicles. The maximum of 1605 trucks cross Gashuun Sukhait port per day and now it has decreased to 495, affecting Mongolia`s plan to supply 24 million tons of coal".
Ts.Bold, Director of Gashuun Sukhait road company, introduced a plan to build parallel road to 230 km long paved road between Tavan Tolgoi mine and Gashuun Sukhait port. It will increase the number of trucks that transport coal to China to 1800-2200.
Now the coal is delivered by trucks which have a capacity of 60 tons. When the parallel road is built, these trucks will transport coal on 130 tons of trailers and this will reduce the cost of transporting coal. Moreover, 520 parking lots will be built along the road and toilet, food, pharmacy, hospital and tire repair facilities has planned to be established near the parking lots.
Local people complain that there is a high number of crimes on the coal transportation route, some drivers go on dust road for the shortcut, creating dust and breaking the soil. Thus, license plate capture cameras were installed around the road, considering that the number of crime will be decreased.
