ULAANBAATAR (GoGo Mongolia) - On Sep 8, the opening of a U.S.-funded kindergarten in Bayanzurkh District 24 of Ulaanbaatar was held.

U.S. Ambassador to Mongolia Jennifer Zimdahl Galt marked the opening, joining Minister of Education, Culture, Science, and Sports (MECSS), Mr. G. Chuluunbaatar.

According to recent reports by the World Bank and UNICEF, there are thousands of children across Mongolia, representing 20-30 percent of those between the ages of 3-6, who are unable to attend kindergarten due to family conditions, illness, or great distances between home and school, among other factors.

The Bayanzurkh 24 Kindergarten incorporates state-of-the-art cold climate construction techniques introduced by experts of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska District, and was built by a Mongolian contractor. This kindergarten was funded by U.S. Department of Defense Overseas Humanitarian, Disaster, and Civic Aid managed by U.S. Pacific Command.

This kindergarten project represents ongoing efforts by the government and people of the United States to bolster the Mongolian education system and meet the tremendous and growing demand for early childhood education in the country.
