Prime Minister U. Khurelsukh briefed Parliament on December 1 about Mongolia's foreign policy.
The Premier stated, “Cabinet will work to ensure a foreign policy which reaffirms the nation’s sovereignty and independence by having good relations with nations; developing political, economic and other areas of relations, and strengthening the nation’s position in the international community. Our relations with our two neighboring countries, Russia and China, are a priority that we are now implementing through comprehensive strategic relations with China and strategic relations with Russia. But there are some challenges we need to tackle, like the coal transport to China issue.”
He noted that hosting the 11th ASEM Summit in 2016 was the most significant highlight for Mongolia's foreign relations since the time of the Great Mongol Empire. The PM remarked that the event brought a tremendous number of high-level diplomats, politicians, and other officials to Mongolia. But that many of the projects initiated by former President Ts. Elbegdorj are now inactive.
The Premier also told Parliament that he plans to pay an official visit to Russia in 2018.
