During its December 7 plenary session, Parliament approved amendments to the Law on Administrative and Territorial Units of Mongolia, which will come into effect immediately. Parliament also discussed the line-item veto on the 2018 state budget from President Kh. Battulga, and Chief of the Cabinet Secretariat Z. Enkhbold answered questions from Parliament members.
He noted, “Mongolia approved the first budget without a deficit in 2007. There is the possibility of approving a budget without a deficit this year.” Finance Minister Ch. Khurelbaatar said that he didn’t agree with the president’s veto, and that the government had to approach the International Monetary Fund to help the economy recover.
MP and former Foreign Minister Ts. Munkh-Orgil said, “To improve the economy, we need to work with international organizations such as the IMF.” The president’s line-item veto for the state's expenditures was rejected by Parliament with 82.4 percent of the members in attendance voting against the veto.
