Construction of a new central wastewater treatment plant in Darkhan-Uul Province began on December 21.
The cost of the treatment plant is 20.68 million USD; the Government of Mongolia is responsible for 10 percent of the financing and the remaining financing will be issued by Asian Development Bank.
The plant will be built by a German and Italian company. The currently operating plant in Darkhan Province was originally opened in 1965. The new treatment plant is expected to process up to 24,000 cubic meters of sewage water per day.
Analysts say that the new plant will improve the water quality in Darkhan-Uul and the Kharaa River.
