On 22nd December, the Cabinet held a non-regular meeting and decided on the near timing of winter vacation.
The winter vacation of secondary and high school students was initially planned to start from 8th January. However, due to increase in influenza incidents among pupils and children, it was decided to extend the winter vacation for all grades. Health Minister D.Sarangerel and Education, Culture, Science and Sports Minister D.Tsogzolmaa informed about the decision.
Last week, 6.6 percent of all patients who've applied for doctor's examination in Ulaanbaatar had influenza, while the indicator is 5.9 percent in the countryside.
If it exceeds 10 percent, it means an influenza outbreak.
Moreover, school attendance rate last week was 75 percent, while in kindergartens, this rate was 95 percent. There are a total of 849 beds in the capital hospitals for children, where 1500 are currently under treatment, exceeding the hospital capacity over 80 percent. But, Health Minister D.Sarangerel claimed that no child is lying on the ground or in the corridors in any of the hospitals.
Considering factors and numbers mentioned above, the Cabinet decided to change winter vacation schedule in order not to aggravate the situation.
As a result, the winter vacation will last for one month, spring vacation will be shortened to one week, and summer vacation will be delayed by a week.
