Minister of Agriculture briefs MPs on sector developments

The Chairman of Parliament’s Environment and Agriculture Standing Committee, L. Eldev-Ochir, and other members of parliament visited the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry on January 8.

There they were briefed by Agriculture Minister B. Batzorig on policy, visions, and current work being carried out by the ministry. The minister noted that there are eight amendments being drafted to create a better legislative environment for the sector, six new bills that will be submitted, and 11 national projects to be implemented.

The projects include a national initiative to expand greenhouse agriculture to replace imports with domestically grown vegetables. The Nooluur Project is being carried out to keep 60 percent of the nation's cashmere in domestic circulation, and a livestock health project is being carried out to prevent the spread of infectious disease.

L. Eldev-Ochir noted that two laws on genetic resources and livestock health were approved by Parliament in 2017 and will come into force on June 1, 2018.
