Vice Minister's comments do not represent the stance of the ministry or the government

The Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry held a Transparent Mining press conference on January 11, and briefed journalists on an industry report.

Mining Minister D. Sumiyabazar said that industrial production reached 11.8 trillion MNT in December 2017, according to preliminary performance data, an increase of 33.7 percent compared to December 2016.

A preliminary report suggests that 47,567.3 tons of coal was extracted, 40,728.63 tons of coal was sold, and 33.320.3 tons of coal was exported. Compared to 2016, extraction increased by 135 percent, sales grew by 120 percent, and exports rose by 129 percent.

Through the Alt II campaign, 20.01 tons of gold was extracted, which met the 2017 goal of 18 tons. As for gasoline reserves, the nation had a 41-day reserve as of January 10. The ministry's officials answered questions from journalists.

On gasoline price increases, a ministry official said that private companies have insisted that they are experiencing deficits, and a working group has been established to study whether or not gas prices will increase further. Minister D. Sumiyabazar addressed controversy regarding Vice Minister D. Zagdjav’s recent statement on Oyu Tolgoi, and stated that the Vice Minister's comments do not represent the stance of the ministry or the government.
