Parliament approved a number of amendments during its January 12 plenary session. Amendments to the Law on the Rehabilitation and Granting Compensation to Victims of Political Repression were approved.
The state will now grant 80 million MNT to the surviving spouse and adopted or biological children of a victim of political repression who was executed, and 40 million MNT will be granted to the spouse and adopted or biological children of a victim who was wrongfully imprisoned.
The deadline for submitting applications for reparations is December 31, 2020.
Amendments to Air Pollution Law were approved. A new air pollution fund will be established and value-added tax for masks, air purifiers, and electric heaters will be waived.
Finance Minister Ch. Khurelbaatar submitted amendments for central bank reform, particularly addressing deposit insurance at banks. The amendments would have Deposit Insurance Corporation of Mongolia monitor regulations for switching banks, cooperation with stakeholders, information sharing, and insurance reimbursement.
Parliament also approved amendments to the Law on the Bank of Mongolia (BoM) that will come into effect on April 1, 2018. Officials from BoM say that the amended law will play an important role in drafting monetary policy independently and it will help long-term economic growth.
