On January 16, the National Statistics Office (NSO) released a preliminary 2017 report on the social and economic status of Mongolia.
The official number of livestock recorded during the 2017 census was 66.2 million: 3.9 million horses, 4.4 million cows, 434,100 camels, 30.1 million sheep, and 27.3 million goats.
The NSO reports that number of sheep increased by 0.2 percent, goats decreased by 0.3 percent, and numbers for other livestock remained stable. The number of households with livestock totaled 303,600. The number of households with up to 500 livestock saw a 0.5 percent increase, while households with more than 500 livestock saw an 11.6 percent increase.
The calculated average number of livestock kept by herding households was 17 horses, 19 cows, two camels, 131 sheep, and 119 goats. As of the end of 2017, the Mongolia's population was 3.2 million, an increase of 59,800 people from the last census count.
Social insurance income reached 1.9 trillion MNT as of November 2017, an increase of 279.8 billion MNT compared to November 2016. Tax revenue increased by 1.2 trillion MNT, and is credited with contributing to lowering the state's budget deficit by 1.7 trillion MNT.
Tax revenue made up 79.5 percent of the state's revenue, non-tax revenue 11.8 percent, Future Heritage Fund revenue 4.5 percent, and Fiscal Stability Fund revenue made up 4.2 percent. State expenditure was 7.4 trillion MNT in 2017. Mongolia traded with 161 nations and total trade turnover volume reached 9.6 billion USD last year, with 5.7 billion USD in exports and 3.9 billion USD in imports.
Trade turnover volume rose by 2.2 billion MNT over 2016, with 1.4 billion USD in exports (primarily coal) and 825.1 million USD in imports (primarily gasoline and automotive equipment).
