The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania published a statement on its official website in response to a report that Lithuania was imposing trade sanctions against Mongolia.
The statement says, “Lithuania's Foreign Ministry emphasizes that Lithuania and Mongolia are developing constructive bilateral relations and are actively cooperating in multilateral formats, as well as gradually expanding economic cooperation.”
The ministry attributes the fake story to anti-Lithuanians trying to "bring down Lithuania". Mongolian Foreign Minister D. Tsogtbaatar and Director of the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ya. Ariunbold also refuted the story on January 19, during the ministry's Information Hour. They reported that it was confirmed with the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry that no sanctions were being imposed.
