Ulaanbaatar Investment 2018 was held on January 29, for its fourth year.
The event was attended by Chief of the Cabinet Secretariat and Minister of Mongolia G. Zandanshatar, Ulaanbaatar Mayor S. Batbold, Chairman of the Citizen’s Representative Council S. Amarsaikhan, Executive Director of the Ulaanbaatar Chamber of Commerce D. Onchinuren, and representatives from 800 corporate entities and investors.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mayor S. Batbold introduced projects completed in 2017 and plans for 2018. According to the mayor, 340 billion MNT in construction projects were carried out in 2017, with 133.9 billion MNT invested by the state, 193.1 billion MNT from the city, and the remaining 11.3 billion MNT from local development funds.
Most of the construction was dedicated to the education sector, with 26 schools and 62 kindergartens beginning operations. The mayor added, “This year, we are also paying close attention to the education sector. Many investors are interested in cooperating with the city on air pollution, housing, and construction. Foreign financing and grants will be spent on infrastructure, particularly roads.”
For 2018, 363.1 billion MNT has been generated for 466 projects. The health sector will have an 8.4 billion MNT project, while 74.8 billion MNT will be spent on urban development.
Ulaanbaatar makes up 64 percent of the nation’s GDP. The participants of the meeting proposed establishing a coal liquefaction plant and developing a construction conglomerate.
