The National Statistics Office reported that livestock mortality has reached 309,000 since the beginning of 2018, an increase of 4.8 percent over 2017.
Goats made up 59.2 percent of the deceased livestock, and sheep made up 30.5 percent. As of January 2018,
- 183,000 goats were lost along with
- 94,000 sheep, 19,800 cows, and
- 11,000 horses.
The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry stated that livestock mortality resulting from disease fell to 3,300 in January, a decrease of 2.2 percent from January 2017.
