According to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry (MoFALI), a total of 694,000 livestock animals have perished in 2018.
Since January 2018, 4,468 animals were impacted by foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreaks, and 3,268 animals have been eradicated.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency, 30 outbreaks of FMD have been confirmed in 27 soums in 11 provinces, largely in Dornogobi, Dundgobi, Bulgan and Tuv provinces.
The epicenters of the outbreaks are currently under quarantine. As reported by Century News, expenses for veterinary services in Mongolia have been gradually increasing.
In 2001, 3.4 billion MNT was spent on efforts to combat FMD outbreaks and total expenses rose to 28.3 billion MNT in 2016, with 8.7 billion MNT spent on vaccinations alone.
MoFALI stated that of the 7.1 million doses of vaccines ordered for purchase from the Russian Federation this year, 500,000 doses have already been purchased. The remaining vaccines will be imported by April 20.
