During the regular session on April 18, Cabinet approved plans to build a parking lot in Khairkhan, an administrative subdivision of Khanbogd soum in Umnugobi province. Cabinet members hope that building this prospective parking lot will help reduce the logjam of trucks en route between Tavan Tolgoi and Gashuunsukhait.
Currently, 8700 trucks from 104 different companies transport coal along the route. Depending on border crossing procedures, the logjam of trucks can range from 20 km to 140 km. It is also expected that the number of accidents along the route will decrease with the parking area. According to official reports, there were 1596 accidents in 2016 and roughly 1000 accidents in 2017.
Cabinet members also approved the submission of proposed amendments to the law on allocation of land to Mongolian citizens. The proposed amendments involve extending the deadline of land allocation by ten years from May 1, legal definitions, as well as principles regarding land allocation. As of 2017, 18.3 percent of the total population, or 62.54 percent of households, have been allocated land for family needs.
