Proposed Zuunbayan-Khangi and Erdenet-Artssuuri railway routes supported by Cabinet

On May 30, Cabinet discussed proposed amendments to the State Policy on Railway Transport and approved their submission to Parliament.

If the proposed amendments are approved by Parliament, a 280-kilometer railway from Zuunbayan to Khangi and a 780-kilometer railway from Erdenet to Arttsuuri will be built.

The Zuunbayan-Khangi railway would primarily be used for iron ore transport. The Erdenet-Artssuuri railway would connect to the Kyzyl-Kuragino railway line, which crosses through Kyzyl in the Tuva Republic. Officials hope that this will open a transit transport corridor linking Asia and Europe, and will help provide Mongolia with access to new markets and seaports.
