On June 20, High-level regional conference under the topic “Whole of society approach to preventing and countering violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism” has been opened under cooperation of the Government of Mongolia, Transnational threats department of Organization for Security and Co-operation and UN office of Counter-Terrorism at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
B.Battsetseg, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, opened the event and D.Tsogtbaatar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, D.Gerel, Head of General Intelligence Agency, T.Greminger, Secretary General of the OSCE, and Muhammad R.Shakh, officer of UN office of Counter-Terrorism made opening speech. D.Tsogtbaatar stated “Developing opportunity of struggling against terrorism of developing countries will reduce possibility of terrorism. We need to keep in mind that terrorism is connected with drug dealing.”
Representatives of 180 Asian and European countries, members of Mongolian Counter-terrorism committee, and representatives of law enforcement organizations participated in the conference, and shared their experience on terrorism, and discussed about importance of public participation to develop national policy and strategy, and improve relationship between culture and religion.
The regional conference will last on June 21 in Ulaanbaatar.
