“Cultural Heritage friendly Ulaanbaatar” campaign has been started with purpose of restoring cultural buildings with age more than 100 years in Ulaanbaatar. Within this campaign, restoration fund of Ulaanbaatar city museum, built in 1919, has been approved by order of the Mayor.
The museum building was used as Central committee of Mongolian People’s Party in July, 1921, temporary People’s Government, Headquarters of Armed Forces, Sukhbaatar museum in 1944-1953, and being operated as Ulaanbaatar city museum since 1956. And no maintenance has been made to the building since 1961. Over 3200 exhibits showing Ulaanbaatar city history are stored in the museum, but about 100 exhibits are shown to public due to the building capacity.
