Mongolia considers law restricting social media registration for minors under 16

On 11 March 2026, P.Naranbayar, Minister of Education, presented progress on a draft law to regulate children’s participation in social networks at the Cabinet meeting. Ministers instructed the Education Minister to incorporate members’ proposals, re-discuss the bill at cabinet and submit the revised draft to the Parliament for consideration.

The draft seeks to prohibit registration of children under 16 on “age-restricted” social networks in order to secure their personal information, protect their physical and mental health and development, preserve upbringing, and shield them from crime, conflict and online attacks.
