Mongolian Gobi travel diary

In summer 2019, I had a chance to work as a guide to foreign tourists to Mongolian Gobi. I was amazed and sometimes had tears in my eyes when I saw how many different places with amazing structures and wildlife I had never seen before in the Gobi, which I thought I didn't know much about. I remember that I was going to show tourists that there was a ger shaped stone in this place with a unique structure called “Baga Gazar Chuluu” which I didn't know the meaning.

The White Stupa, known as Mongolian Grand Canyon, is said that it was seabed in the past. People can make music videos there with changing clothes and make Instagram photos turn to photos of White Stupa. As mentioned in the folktale, a world famous dinosaur bones finding site, small dinosaur bone fragments may have been found here. Tourists know that seeing the bone and leaving it as it where is a good behavior. I climbed to the top of the Khongor sands for 2 hours, and I was sweating on top of it. I wondered when the last time I did such an exercise.

It is said that the sun is closer from the camel back. It’s true. It was really calming and warming. Camel’s soft and sad eyes made me so thoughtful. I imagined myself as an Arab princess riding a camel along the sands of Khongor and picking up barley, and I felt a wonderful feeling in the Gobi that I had never felt before. The next day, after riding a camel for two hours, our tourist wanted to rest.

After that, we went to Khustai national park. The site is a protected area and surrounded by forest. We saw many wild animals such as wild horses, marmots, eaglets and deer. I feel that humans are linked to nature. Even though I saw big mountains, many flowers and rivers, Mongolian Gobi is so spacious, calm and wonderful.

Mountainous lands look the same, but every part of Gobi is different. One secret is that tourist camps in Gobi are nicer than mountainous lands’. When you travel in the Gobi, you will never get bored and it is an opportunity to get to know and love Mongolia even more, travelers!
