After more than 20 days of persistent work by local officials and specialist teams, a brown bear that entered Tes soum, Uvs province, was captured alive and transferred to the Khan Khentii strictly protected area.
On October 22, a local resident reported a bear sighting in the Khanjit bag area of Tes soum. In response, a working group was formed that included Tes soum leadership and officials, the soum Department of Nature and Environment, the Uvs province Department of Nature and Environment, the Wildlife Conservation Center, Border Guard Unit 0311, and the Uvs Lake Basin Strictly Protected Area Administration. The group coordinated efforts to locate and safely capture the animal.
Because of its natural movements, the bear frequently changed location and at times appeared to disappear. The working group carried out daily patrols, issued timely warnings to residents, set live traps at locations the animal frequented, and placed food at those sites. After more than three weeks of operations, a brown bear was caught in a live trap on November 29, 2025, near an area called Tooromt close to the soum center.
On November 30, the team anesthetized the bear in the trap to perform health checks, take measurements and collect data. Following these procedures, the bear was transferred to the Khan Khentii strictly protected area.
