MP P.Sainzorigt barred from leaving Mongolia

The Sukhbaatar District Prosecutor’s Office submitted a request on February 28, 2026 to the District Court of First Instance for Simple Criminal and Civil Cases asking that Member of Parliament P.Sainzorigt be prevented from leaving Mongolia while a criminal case is under investigation.

Prosecutors have opened a criminal case charging P.Sainzorig with the alleged offence of “intentionally causing minor harm to human health.” The prosecutor’s office first filed for a travel restriction on February 28, but the court initially refused to accept the motion. The prosecutor then appealed the judge’s decision to the Chief Justice. On review on March 4, 2026, the decision was reversed and the court found it reasonable to impose a preventive measure aimed at preventing the accused from interfering with the investigation.

As a result, the court ordered a restriction on the accused’s ability to exit Mongolia as a precautionary measure while the inquiry continues.
