“UB food festival”, an annual event that marks the beginning of the tourism season and introduces both Mongolian and international culinary traditions, will take place at Sukhbaatar Square from April 8-14. Organized by the Office of the Governor of Ulaanbaatar, this year’s festival will focus on Uzbek cuisine, while also highlighting traditional Mongolian dishes.
A key attraction of the festival will be a massive flour soup preparation by the monks of Gandantegchinlen Monastery, cooked in a one-ton cast iron pot using traditional methods to showcase Mongolia’s rich food heritage.
Visitors will have the chance to sample authentic dishes from different nations, prepared by master chefs using traditional recipes. Notably, an Uzbek chef will introduce pilaf, shashlik, kazan kebab, and samsa, offering attendees a taste of Uzbekistan’s renowned flavors.
Beyond food, the festival will feature live DJ performances, Open Mic sessions, the "Baga toirog" art performance, an Uzbek goods market, Ulaanbaatar Theater performances, the "Anir" pop orchestra, and various culinary competitions.
While this year’s main focus will be on Mongolian and Uzbek cuisine, the event will also serve as a platform to introduce the culinary culture, flavors, and standards of various countries. The "UB food festival” is set to become a regular international food event, contributing to the development of specialized tourism in Mongolia.
