On February 16, 2024, 16 dinosaur fossils of six types of Mongolian cultural heritage were brought from the United States to Ulaanbaatar. And they were handed over in accordance with the Law on Cultural Heritage Protection.
Among them, there is a fossil of the dinosaur "Alioramus" belonging to the family "Tyrannosauridae", which is found only in the territory of Mongolia.
As a result of cooperation between The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, the Embassy of Mongolia in the United States of America and the Department of Homeland Security of the United States of America and the customs and border protection agencies, the parties signed the "Agreement on the Non-Dispute Transfer of Property" on May 5, 2023. As part of the official visit of L.Oyun-Erdene, the Prime Minister of Mongolia, to the United States, B.Battsetseg, the Minister of Foreign Affairs represented the Government of Mongolia at the ceremony to return the dinosaur fossils.
As part of the cooperation between the Government of Mongolia and the United States, the Mongolian side received the dinosaur fossils that were smuggled across the border of Mongolia in 2012, in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2019, respectively.
