“Let’s Know and Inform” campaign to prevent from human trafficking has started

“Let’s Know and Inform” a month-long campaign to prevent children from becoming a victim of human trafficking, increase the public knowledge on human trafficking related crimes has started today.

In April 2020, Governments of Mongolia and the United States signed the U.S.-Mongolia Child Protection Compact Partnership, a four-year plan to fight child trafficking in Mongolia. Under the partnership the project is implemented by World Vision Mongolia and the Asia Foundation and it aims to increase capacity of and build effective partnership between the government, civil society and private sector stakeholders to strengthen Mongolia’s efforts to effectively prosecute and convict child traffickers with a victim-centered approach, to provide comprehensive trauma-informed care for child victims of trafficking and to prevent child trafficking in all its forms.

In this regard, with financial support of the U.S. State Department, Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs, Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, World Vision Mongolia, the Asia Foundation and “Mongol Content” LLC is organizing the “Let’s Know and Inform” campaign to prevent children from becoming a victim of human trafficking crimes.

The opening ceremony of the campaign took place in the outdoor area of school #65 in Songinokhairkhan District of Ulaanbaatar. Nyamgerel.L, Head of the Secretariat of the Coordination Council for Crime Prevention, Matthew Ference, Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar,  Darikhand.B, Project Director of Child Protection Compact Project of World Vision Mongolia, other officials representing government, civil society, teachers, students, and parents have participated in the opening ceremony.

The crime of human trafficking can be committed in any country, and Mongolia is mentioned in international reports as a sending, transmitting, and receiving country. Most of these crimes are committed in the form of sexual exploitation, forced labor, and labor exploitation, and children and men could also be victims.

According to National Police Agency of Mongolia, 49 children have been registered as victims of human trafficking over the past three years.

According to global data,  women are often the victims of this crime, five out of 10 victims are adult women and two are girls, while a third of all victims, 34 percent, are children.

Therefore, the "Let's Know and Inform" campaign has been launched in order to spread the attitude of reporting such cases and identifying high-risk child victims, referring them to service providers, and protecting them.
