Seeding at Selenge aimag is at 50-60 percent. This year entities and individuals with proven credit records are to be supported through the financing from the Agriculture Support Fund with soft loans and reduced deposits according to Ts.Bolorchuluun, Head of the Agricultural Policy Implementation Department at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
Moreover, the fund is implementing the technical support programs as well.
-What support programs are being implemented for this year's seeding?
-May 15-17th we went to see the progress on seeding activities to Selenge aimag. Most of the entities were reporting that seeding process is at its midst and the implementation in most cases is at 60 percent.
Ministry has issued petrol, grain and fertilizers with soft loans or discounted rates from the support fund. During the meetings there were no complaints regarding the insufficient supplies. Before the seeding started we also conducted bids and supplied with some needed equipments as well.
-How much grain does state have currently and how many sorts of grain we are using?
-Mongolia currently has 27 sorts of grain. Through the Agriculture Support Fund we have procured over 6000 tons of grain seeds from Russia. This in turn adds to the sorts of grain we are currently using. Recently we have been using more grains of sorts Altaiskii 100, Altaiskii 500 and Altaiskii 325 as well as Selenge and Darkhan 144 sorts.
-What directions did the ministry give to entities in regards with how much percentage of the total crops to be for oil crops and how much to be dedicated for wheat?
-This year 401,2 thousand hectares of land is to be cultivated, of which 328,6 thousand hectares to be dedicated to wheat, 13,9 thousand hectares to potatoes, 8,7 thousand hectares to vegetables, 16 thousand hectares to fodder, 33 thousand hectares of land to oil plants and 1 thousand hectares to berries. We estimated that domestic oil demand can be fully provided by seeding oil plants in 45 thousand hectares of land. Last year, oil plants were seeded in over 80 thousand hectares of land. However, harvested only eight percent of total land.
-Certain percent of agricultural regions are considered as having problems of soil erosion. What measures is ministry taking against it?
-We conduct agro-chemical (soil fertility) analysis after providing land. We conducted agro-chemical soil analysis in 2010. Actually, humus in the soil must be more than two percent. There were no land that have three three percent of humus in the soil. However, there were 54 percent of the lands that have more than three percent of humus in the soil. The first analysis are conducted by the state and companies must do their own assessments every five years after the first analysis. In recent years, the agricultural companies significantly use fertilizers. In previous years, farmers were not using fertilizers much and use of fertilizers is increasing this year. We have distributed a thousand tons of fertilizers. Farmers learn to use fertilizers and pesticides is meritoriously.
