The Minister of Mining R.Jigjid is paying an official visit in Colombia. He has met Colombian Minister of Mining and Energy, Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Delegations of the Minister of Mining and Mineral Resource Authority led by the Minister of Mining R.Jigjid met with delegations from Colombia`s Mineral Resource Agency and relevant organizations. During the meeting, brief introduction on mining sector of two countries was presented and parties exchanged their views on exploring resource illegally, artisanal mining, communicating with locals, investment, tax environment and discussed the availability of experience sharing in further.
According to the research conducted in 2010 in Colombia, more than 9000 or 73 percent of mining were operating illegally out of total of 13,400 mining while research conducted in 2014 showed that 65 percent of total of 3368 mining were exploring resources illegally.
Therefore, the Ministry of Mining has cooperated with the local community by formalizing, registering and promoting the artisanal miners. As a result, citizens willing to formalize have increased in last three years;
- 860 citizens in 2014,
- 1500 citizens in 2015,
- and 2600 citizens are expected to be formalized in 2018.
After, the Minister of Mining R.Jigjid met with the Vice Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development. They have discussed on how to regulate the environmental damages caused by the mining, introducing environmentally friendly technologies and granting of special license associated with environmental impacts.
