Mongolian Tourism Association initiated and organised “Golden Compass Tourism Awards” for the first time this year. The reasons to hold the awards are to set a good professional standard in Mongolian tourism industry and further direct the industry to a more sustainable and responsible development, and to raise awareness among people about tourism and why tourism is an important industry.
The awards criterion was based on the latest international sustainable tourism principles and responsible business requirements. A total of 66 entries for 9 categories were received in the preliminaries, 35 of which proceeded to the next round where a team of 18 judges representing all tourism stakeholders worked for a week. The judges found most of the competition intense as each of the candidates was excellent in their own right, and the judges are hoping that good practices of the competitors will affect not only Mongolian tourism industry but also other industries in a positive way.
