At the regular meeting of City Council held today, changes to be made in land management plans of 2016 has been approved with the aim to implement car-free street project.
Car-free street project aims to improve the view of the streets and squares as well as to create comfortable environment for tourists. The project will be implemented in the most populated four areas of Ulaanbaatar city.
First of all, the selected areas at Chingiltei district and Suhbaatar district will be owned by entities after organizing tender and auction.
An underground street with nine exits, parking lots and complex building with public rest stop, stores and services has planned to be built at roads from State Department Store to ASA Circus. Also the existing garden area will be upgraded.
After implementation of the project, traffic of two sides will be closed only on weekends and the underground street will be car-free.
An underground street will cover total of 9940 square meter areas. The funding will be provided by the private entities and it is expected to be commenced within two years.
