On January 19, J.Batbayasgalan, Deputy Mayor of Ulaanbaatar in charge of Green Development and Air Pollution and Meloney K.Lindberg, Asia Foundation Country Representative in Mongolia signed a memorandum of cooperation in the direction of promoting development of Ulaanbaatar city.
In the light of the memorandum, Asia Foundation will provide technical assistance with a view to formulate and implement a strategic plan of Ulaanbaatar city's green development. Moreover, an active participation of authorities of Ulaanbaatar city and other sides will be ensured in the implementation process of projects and programs to promote green development, which were reflected in relevant policies and urban planning documents.
After signing the memorandum, the Deputy Mayor J.Batbayasgalan said “Air pollution is the most urgent issue in Ulaanbaatar city. Also, reserve of drinking water is decreasing and water and soil pollution and degradation are increasing due to population centralization in Ulaanbaatar. Therefore, the Administration of Ulaanbaatar will be cooperating with the Asia Foundation in order to solve all these environmental issues and focusing on carrying-out projects and programs for green development of Ulaanbaatar city”.
