Dr Sharman Stone, Australia’s Ambassador for Women and Girls is paying an official visit to Mongolia.
During her first visit to Mongolia, Dr Sharman Stone, will participate in a roundtable discussion with the Mongolian women parliamentarians, ministers and vice ministers. The roundtable discussion “The Role of Women in Leadership” will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Relations on Tuesday 2 May at 4PM.
Visiting Mongolia has been a priority for Dr Stone, who had served as a head of the Australia-Mongolia Parliamentary Friendship Group. The visit is timed to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Australia-Mongolia diplomatic relations. During her three days in Ulaanbaatar, the Ambassador will meet Mongolian parliamentarians, businesswomen, and civil society leaders to discuss women’s empowerment, gender equality, ending gender- based violence and protecting the rights of children.
Dr Stone was appointed as Australia’s third Ambassador for Women and Girls in 2016 and took up the position in January 2017. The Australian government created the role in 2011 with a goal to ensure that the empowerment of women and girls is a central focus of Australia's diplomatic, development and defense concerns. By advocating internationally for women's equal participation in political, economic and social affairs, the role advances global progress, peace and stability.
