ULAANBAATAR (GoGo Mongolia) - Public secondary school and kindergarten teachers are holding the second strike today.
Teachers established a temporary committee and repeatedly submitted official letters to the Government demanding to increase their minimum monthly salary to 1.6 million MNT (650 USD), to establish a trilateral agreement of labor and to improve the social security of staff who work in education and science sectors.
Teachers announced to continue their struggle until the Government accepts their demand. Earlier on Aug 30, teachers, held a demonstration both in Ulaanbaatar city and 21 provinces.
In its last demand, the teachers` committee announced to hold strike on Sep 21 and Sep 26 nationwide.
However, the Government has not delivered an approximate respond until today. On Sep 19, Cabinet Secretariat U.Byambasuren replied, "We are conducting research on the possibility of salary rise".
Today majority of teachers working for public schools and kindergartens in Ulaanbaatar city and 21 aimags are joined the second strike.
Teachers noted that Mongolian teachers are paid a minimum of 200 USD per month. 80-90 percent of the teachers have loans. We are living from loan to loan. Teachers earn their living by working in South Korea during the summer. It is embarrassing to report that Mongolian teachers do manual work in abroad.
