Yesterday, the Cabinet issued a decision to announce crop farming zones of the country during its regular meeting. A total of 113 bags (smallest administrative unit) of 60 soums of seven aimags such as Selenge, Tuv, Darkhan-Uul, Bulgan, Khentii, Uvurkhangai and Arkhangai were announced as a crop farming zone of Mongolia. The country has 1.05 million hectares of crop farming area. Out of this, 700 thousand hectares of land is currently in circulation. The remaining, which is over 300 thousand hectares, stays uncultivated for a long term. Therefore, the sectorial ministry considered that it is right to put the 300 thousand hectares of land into circulation.
“This is a historical decision made for the crop farmers,” Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Batzorig Batjargal underscored during his presentation at the Cabinet meeting. Next year will mark the 60th anniversary of establishment of crop farming sector in Mongolia. He also emphasized that Mongolia will develop intensified animal husbandry in the country’s crop farming zone.
