Railway construction work of Tavaltolgoi-Gashuunsukhait will continue

At regular meeting of the Cabinet today, construction work of 208.5 km railway in route of Tavaltolgoi-Gashuunsukhait is to start from August 15 and to be in exploitation in 2021.

Construction work license of railway basement structure has been issued to “Tavantolgoi railway” LLC and required budget shall be made from coal pre-sale and other financial funds.

N.Naranbaatar, Governor of Umnugovi province, has been obliged to provide required permissions related engineering facility, energy, water supply, stations, gears and other facilities.

Also, relevant Ministers and Chiefs of agencies have been obliged to make 66% shares of “Tavantolgoi railway” LLC owned by “Erdenes tavantolgoi” LLC, 34% shares own by “Mongolian railway” SOSC. Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh reminded relevant Ministers, agencies and companies to bring the railway into exploitation on time. 

Tavaltolgoi-Gashuunsukhait railway will pass through Tsotgtsetsii, Bayan-Ovoo and Khanbogd soums of Umnugovi province, and 30-million-ton coal can be transported.

In 2013-2015, 51.8% of lower level structure work of the road, 86.6% of earthwork, and 52% of bridge work have been performed. It has stopped due to financial issue in 2015-2018.

The cost of coal transportation through Tavaltolgoi-Gashuunsukhait autoroad is USD 30-32 per ton. The price will decrease to be USD 14.9 if railway is operated.
