Construction work of 267 km Tavan Tolgoi-Gashuunsukhait railway is under progress. Currently, 87.15 percent of earthworks, 97.44 percent of water pipes and livestock crossings, 37.62 percent of bridges and 42 km of road infrastructure have been completed.

The cost of transporting coal by road from the Tavan Tolgoi mine to the Gashuunsukhait port is $ 30-32 per ton. When the railway is in operation, the cost can be decreased by two times.

In scope of the project, two stations and six crossings will be built passing through Tsogttsetsii, Bayan-Ovoo and Khanbogd soums of Umnugovi provinces. 30 million ton coal can be transported and exported per annum.
