Amid rising temperatures and low precipitation, the risk of forest and steppe fires is intensifying across Mongolia. On June 19, wildfires were reported in Mandal soum of Selenge province and Erdene soum of Tuv province.
At 18:05, a call was received reporting a forest and steppe fire in the “Gakhaitiin Goliin Ekh” area of Mandal soum, Selenge province. Emergency agencies from the 55th unit in Shariin Gol soum (Darkhan-Uul province), the 19th unit in Mandal soum (Selenge province), and the 40th unit in Bayangol soum were dispatched to the scene. Environmental officers from Mandal soum, along with staff from local logging companies Khandgai Nuur LLC and Buyant Tsaram LLC, also joined efforts to contain the fire.
At 19:10, on June 19, hot spots were detected via the “Firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov” and “icc.mn” platforms in the “Tergiin Gol” area of Bayantuul bag, Erdene soum, Tuv province. The Firefighting Department of the National Emergency Management Agency confirmed the alert and mobilized response teams.
Led by Colonel G.Erdenebat, head of the Tuv province Emergency Management Department, officers from the 84th unit in Batsumber soum are currently on site working to suppress the blaze.
