Since Mongolia joined to The Hague Convention on the Protection of Children and Cooperation in Intercountry Adoption in 1998, 272 children have been adopted by foreigners.
Those children were adopted by families from 17 countries including United States, Germany, Republic of Korea, France, Kingdom of the Netherlands, Canada, Republic of Italy, Australia, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Kingdom of Belgium, Japan, Kingdom of Denmark, Kingdom of Spain, Finland, Kingdom of Sweden, the Russian Federation and New Zealand. Of which:

Mongolia immigration agency is responsible for the adoption of Mongolian children by foreign families. Within the framework of this responsibility, bilateral or tripartite agreements are concluded with adoptive parents and authorized non-governmental organizations in accordance with the UN Convention on the Children Rights.
Adoptive parents deliver a report on a child growth and development according to the agreement as following period.
-Twice a year for one month to 3-year old
-Once a year for 4-8-year-old
-Once in a two years for 9-16-year-old
