Heating bills to rise significantly from October: What to Expect

Mongolian households will see a significant rise in heating prices from October 2025, as the Energy Regulatory Commission implements an 85% price increase to address financial losses in the energy sector and support investment.

Currently, heating tariffs per square meter are:

  • MNT 506 in Ulaanbaatar
  • MNT 648 in regional cities like Darkhan, Erdenet, and Choibalsan

With the increase, these will rise to:

  • MNT 936 per m² in Ulaanbaatar
  • MNT 1,199 per m² in regional cities

For example, a 76 m² apartment currently paying MNT 55,561 will see their heating bill increase to around MNT 102,000 per month.

Hot water tariffs will also double, from MNT 2,806 to MNT 5,612 per person per month.

The Energy Regulatory Commission reports that the cost of heat production is currently MNT 33,800 per GCal, but the actual cost is MNT 63,000 per GCal, further justifying the tariff adjustment.
