At today’s Cabinet meeting, N.Uchral, Chief Cabinet Secretary announced that a resolution was approved outlining measures to ensure citizen participation and transparency in uranium exploration and mining activities.
The decision aims to address public concerns and guarantee citizens’ right to know about mining activities—particularly those involving uranium. The resolution includes the following key points:
- Guarantee citizens’ right to information regarding the exploration and extraction of uranium and other mineral resources.
- Increase public, independent, and continuous monitoring of mining operations.
- Promote responsible mining practices.
- Ensure revenues from mining are directed toward local development funds, national wealth funds, and savings funds.
- Establish an international laboratory to monitor radiation exposure and environmental pollution in air, water, and soil.
N.Uchral noted that these decisions aim to dispel public doubts and build trust through transparency. “Following the signing of the investment agreement, some citizens welcomed it as a step forward for nuclear energy, greenhouse gas reduction, and foreign investment from third countries,” he said.
He added that civil society organizations and environmentally conscious citizens have expressed valid concerns about potential harm to air, water, soil, and animal health, and are calling for increased public accountability.
