Following the signing ceremony President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj and President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Thein Sein hosted a press conference.
President Elbegdorj noted: “I would like to extend my hearty greetings to His Excellency Mr. U Thein Sein, the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the delegation accompanying the President to Mongolia.
This is the first ever state visit of the Head of State of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Mongolia and it is a historic visit.
Next year our two countries will commemorate 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. I have just held official talks with President U Thein Sein on issues of comprehensive magnitude.
Our two countries have great potentials to cooperate in many sectors. Of these I would like to highlight our potential cooperation in mining and energy. In this direction we have agreed to exchange our business delegations.
We have also agreed to establish working groups to explore avenues of cooperation in these two sectors. Tourism is another sector of prominent cooperation and development between our two countries.
This morning, when His Excellency Mr. President arrived at the Chinggis Square he said: “I feel like in winter in your Mongolian summer”. So I do believe that this weather complementarity of our two countries will be conducive for mutual business relations.
Also Mr. President told me that it is closer to fly to Mongolia from Myanmar than to South Korea or to Japan. We have great potentials to develop air service relations.
The majority of the people of our two countries are Buddhists and we have long lasting shared traditions and culture of Buddhist philosophy.
On top of cultural relations we can also explore avenues of cooperation in education and health sectors. We have just witnessed the signing of an important document of cooperation between the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of our two countries. This document will further boost and reinvigorate our business relations.
Our two parties are working on establishing an agreement on mutual promotion and protection of investments. Mongolia has always promoted inbound Foreign Direct Investment. But the willingness of the Mongolian business people to invest in other countries including Myanmar is increasing. So there are businesses in Mongolia who interested to invest in mining and hospitality services and infrastructure in Myanmar.
In these areas Mongolia has resourceful national cadre and personnel and we have exchanged our opinion with His Excellency, Mr. President on dispatching and delegating Mongolian cadre in this areas to Myanmar. As you well know, Myanmar has embarked upon active democratization and market economy.
By the end of this year, 2015, Myanmar will be organizing an important historic parliamentary general election. And the result of our own past elections, Mongolia has learned lessons and we have earned experiences and we are ready to share these experiences. His Excellency, Mr. President invited Mongolian experts and we will be sending Mongolian delegation to share our experiences of the democratic elections.
Our two countries have been actively cooperating in regional and multilateral fora. We have an initiative called M2: Mongolia-Myanmar and we will further work to consolidate our efforts in order to promote this mechanism of cooperation.
There is a mechanism to support the chairmanship: ASEM chairman support group and Myanmar is a member of this group. And with this Your Excellency, Mr. President I would like to wish you and your delegation most hospitable and memorable stay in Mongolia. Thank you very much”.
